She Directed

Chloe Wine Collection raises a glass to female filmmakers.

Chloe Wine Collection, developed by an award-winning female winemaker, is recognizing and rewarding women in the director’s chair through the 2019 She Directed female filmmakers contest. In partnership with Women In Film and actress Kate Bosworth, Chloe Wine Collection provided four selected female filmmakers with a professional mentorship from industry veterans, and one grand prize-winning filmmaker with mentorship and a cash prize to fund future projects.

This summer, filmmakers from across the country submitted original short films or an excerpt of a feature film that put women at the center of the story. We are proud to announce the 2019 Chloe Wine Collection She Directed Filmmaker Contest Winner is Alexis Sallee for her short film Who We Are.

Alexis’ film is dedicated to the women who influence our lives. Her film shows a young Iñupiaq artist who connects to ancestral lands through her work. As she paints, she reflects on climate change and its effects on Alaska Native villages. She narrates the motivation behind the portrait while exploring her role in the preservation of land and culture. The film aims to honor the strength and legacy of Indigenous people.

Congratulations to Alexis, and a big thank you to all of the female filmmakers who took part in this year’s contest.
